Lingerie Shoot & Mentoring

Add caption

On Saturday I had some other photographers rent out my studio. They mainly shoot surf, so they wanted to learn about studio photography and practice doing people/fashion photos. So with my teacher-hat on we had a nice snapper session. I basically let the others shoot, and just set everything up fo them to give them an idea of the studio environment and controlling light. However I did snap a quick shot at the end with the model in red lingerie which I was happy with (considering that I only gave it 2 frames).

My First N8 Video!!! Jipang!

This morning I had a fashion shoot, and for some yet to be explained reason I thought 'I feel like filming today', and Jipang, there in my pocket was a video camera. Well, a phone, but it could film, so quickly I wrenched it from my pocket and with my cumbersomely oversized hands I slapped the screen a few times until video mode came to life, and here it is...
Seemingly small, irrelevant, unimportant. But who cares. I's dun mades a video. Good times.
This is when we were still putting together outfits for the shoot. I'll add some behind the scenes in the next post.

30's 40's Styling

I'm a bit of a fan of 20's-40's menswear, but have a heck of a time finding items from this style for my wardrobe let alone on the net for styling. Much of why I like it is that no one else I know wears it (yet) so it's still a bit 'me', in particular brief cases, which are my latest bag-lovin' option.
But, this afternoon I gave it 20 minutes of searching to try and put something together in Photoshop, and while this is just the jist of what I'm looking for it's close enough so styling plan needs.

We have:
Labeless vintage hat
Handspun 100% wool waistcoat
Unkown Mandarin collar beige shirt
Franzen brown leather briefcase
Ralph Lauren brown Harris Tweed wool pants
Pierre Hardy pony leather shoes

Another Style Discovery

You may have noticed some of my photos of graffiti artists at work on Manly skate park in a previous post.
Well, after that evening I woke up in the morning with a spray cap in my pocket belonging to one of the painters on the night, the well known writer Roter, who happens to also be my brother :o. I was enthused by it's remnants of paint and cultural significance. I thought 'This is an ornament, an object of the time, and that a lot of those young painters would froth to have'. So there, lying next to my bed in the tangled mess they linger in, is my chain collection, amongst which was this lonesome ball chain, unadorned and awaiting such a pendant.
Here we have it, a new collection I am going to start - a series of chains with spray caps used by well known graffiti artists, accompanied by images of the work they were used on.

Some Cool Watches and Watch Jewellery

So here I find myself on a Saturday afternoon (Sydney time) waiting for a mate to pick me up to head to a party when I catch myself Google-ising my boredom away, and what do I come across...this hella watch (the first depicted here) which has a moving inner-face element to guide the time. No, no arms needed here, this little gem just blew my mind. Maybe I'm naive in my watch awareness, but I've not seen the likes of it before, which in turn prompted a watch safari. Further into my Google ride I found these cool pieces of jewelery made out of watch elements. I've loved the insides of watches since I was a wee chap, all the fiddly shiny movey bits, and it made so much sense that these are features in themselves, so it was great to see these embraced as a craft work for display.

Miranda Kerr's first run down the catwalk

Last night I was invited to photograph the David Jones Spring/Summer 2012 catwalk show where Miranda Kerr made her return to the runway. And WOW what a show. Went without a glitch, and all the models looked absolutely amazing, in particular the lovely Miranda.
Held at the Hall of Industries in Moore Park (Sydney), the venue played host to an excitable and eclectic mix of industry figures, who enjoyed the gracious hospitality of David Jones who spared no expense to put on a fantastic evening.
As for me, today I've been frantically trying to send this off to my clients (and potential ones), so far my images are up on one site - Breakfast With Audrey -

http://www.breakfastwithaudrey.com.au/index.php/2011/08/04/red-carpet-arrivals-david-jones-summer-2011-launch/

But I thought the event a great opportunity to send a freelance submission to Elle considering it's relevance, and the fact that I'm a freelancer so will jump at any great opportunity. So here's hoping they receive my mail.
